Mental health and help with substance abuse problems

Many people are affected by mental health and substance abuse problems. You, a family member, or another person close to you may have problems. The sooner help is sought for problems, the easier it is to manage them.

Help from the health and social services centre
If you need help with mental health or substance abuse problems, contact your health and social services centre. Mental health teams at the health and social services centre help you or those close to you.
Ask in the chat or call the advice number
You can ask for help with substance abuse and addiction problems either in the chat or by phone Mon–Fri 12–15:

- It is also possible to use the service anonymously.
Help for young people
If you experience constant anxiety, depression, anger, or other distressing feelings, you should seek help. If you have a drug or alcohol problem, you need professional help.
When you need help with mental health or substance abuse problems, contact your
- school’s public health nurse
- psychologist
- school social worker, or
- student health care services.
If you are not a student, contact the health and social services centre. If you need urgent help, contact the health and social services centre or the Medical Helpline 116117.
You can get low-threshold help from student welfare personnel or from the health and social services centre. If that is not enough, you will be directed to the mental health and substance abuse services for young people.
The services are confidential and free of charge for young people.
Emergency situations
In an urgent situation, call the Medical helpline 116 117, and in an emergency call the emergency number 112.
