Service fees for children and families

Hospital care during pregnancy and childbirth

Specialised medical care appointments related to pregnancy and childbirth are usually subject to a fee. Only some appointments are free of charge.

Maternity outpatient clinic, fear clinic: €66.70 per appointment

  • The fee is also charged for a check-up visit at the emergency pregnancy services and/or the maternity unit. If the expectant person is admitted to hospital after the appointment, the fee is changed to a daily care fee based on the number of days of care.
  • The maternity outpatient clinic telephone consultation fee is €30.90.
  • Maternity outpatient clinic services for pregnant persons using substances are free of charge.

Foetal screenings are free of charge.

Please note! If a miscarriage is diagnosed during foetal screening, an appointment fee will be charged for the treatment: €66.70

For missed or uncancelled appointments, a fee of €56.70 is charged for those aged 18 and over. The fee may be charged if you do not cancel the appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled time.

Daily care fee in hospital: €66.90 per day of care

This fee applies to the maternity ward, the delivery unit, and the 2ab ward at the mother–child unit.

Support person in the family room: €66.90 per day (including meals). Please note! No fee is charged for the support person in the delivery unit.

Perheonni unit:

  • Patient fee at Perheonni: €66.70 per day
  • Support person: €45 per day (including breakfast)

If the newborn baby requires special examinations or treatment procedures after birth, these are invoiced to the mother. If the baby is treated in an intensive care and/or observation unit, a daily care fee is charged for a maximum of seven days per calendar year.

Fees for support persons are not care fees and therefore do not contribute towards the payment ceiling.

Mother and child health clinics

Maternity clinic and child health clinic services are free of charge.

For missed or uncancelled appointments, a fee of €56.70 is charged for those aged 18 and over. The fee may be charged if you do not cancel the appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled time.

Home-help services for families with children

Temporary home-help services:
When home-help service for families with children is temporary, the fee is €6.80 per hour.

The minimum time invoiced is two hours. After that, invoicing is done in increments of 30 minutes. The maximum fee is €34 per day.

Regular home-help services:
Home-help services are considered regular if you use the service at least once a week for a period of two months.

The client fee for regular home-help services depends on the number of service hours, the size of your family, and your gross income. The gross income exceeding the income limit is taken into account as monthly income. If your family’s income is below the income limit, no fee is charged for home-help services.

The income limit is determined according to family size as follows:

  • two persons: €1,205/month
  • three persons: €1,891/month
  • four persons: €2,338/month
  • five persons: €2,830/month
  • six persons or more: €3,251/month

The percentage of the fee is determined according to the amount of gross income exceeding the income limit based on family size.

If your family consists of more than six persons, the income limit is increased by €389 for each additional person.

No fee is charged for regular home-help services for families with children

  • if the service is part of your family’s service needs assessment and/or service plan under child welfare services, family social work, or disability services
  • if your family receives social assistance.

Child welfare

Child welfare services are free of charge, with the exception of family care, institutional care, or housing services. Family care, institutional care, or housing services can be arranged as support in open care, substitute care, or after-care.

When determining the fee, the child’s or young person’s means of subsistence and care-related considerations are taken into account.

The fee collected from the child’s or young person’s income is a maximum of €2,048.60 per month.
