Payment ceiling

The maximum amount of client fees, known as the payment ceiling, is €762 per calendar year. Please note that you are responsible for monitoring the accumulation of payments towards the ceiling.

The moment when the ceiling is exceeded is determined by the date you received the service, not by the invoice’s due date or the date you paid the invoice. After the ceiling has been exceeded, the services included in the ceiling are free of charge.

An exception is the fee for short-term institutional care, for which those aged 18 and over must pay €25.10 per day of care. In psychiatric units or in substance abuse detoxification facilities, no client fee is charged after the payment ceiling has been reached.

If you have any questions about the payment ceiling, you can find the contact information for customer invoicing (e-mail and telephone number) on each invoice sent.

Which fees are included in the payment ceiling?

The payment ceiling includes, for example, fees for the following public services:

  • appointment with a physician at a health centre
  • examinations and treatment provided by an outpatient clinic
  • day surgery procedures
  • oral and dental examinations and treatment (excluding dental technician costs)
  • specialised oral and maxillofacial procedures
  • therapies and neuropsychological rehabilitation provided by a health care professional
  • treatment provided as part of a series of treatments
  • temporary home nursing
  • short-term institutional care
