Renewal of prescription
Prescription renewal is necessary when a physician has prescribed a medicine for long-term or repeated use. Please request the renewal of your prescription when your medicine is running out or your prescription is about to expire.
You can request a prescription renewal in the following ways:
- During a physician’s or nurse’s appointment, for example in connection with a follow-up visit for a chronic illness.
- Digitally through the MyKanta service
- By requesting a renewal of your prescription from your own health and social services centre or a local clinic: call a physician’s or nurse’s telephone number at your centre or visit the service point in person.
- Through a pharmacy, in which case the pharmacy will forward the renewal request to whoever issued the prescription. The pharmacy may charge a fee for forwarding the renewal request.
Please note that the processing time for renewing an electronic prescription is eight days from the date of request.
