Fellowship in General Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery

Fellowship in General Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery

Tampere University Hospital serves a population of 1.3 million people in the Midwest of Finland. The Department of Plastic Surgery holds 10 consultant and 3 resident positions.

Our Hospital holds a major Trauma Centre and a Sarcoma Centre that occupy plastic surgeons frequently. Head and neck reconstructions are done in collaboration with ENT department. Breast reconstructions, skin cancer operations, soft tissue infections, minor burns and oculoplastic patients are frequently seen in our practice. Additionally, we have the largest wound department in the country with a multi-disciplinary team approach.
We perform 140-150 microsurgical operations annually. We also perform major reconstructions after gynaecological and GI-tract tumour resections.

We do not operate on cleft lip or other major congenital malformations nor do we perform cosmetic surgery in Tampere University Hospital. An active Hand Surgery department situates in the same premises with the Plastic Surgery department.

The fellowship is primarily aimed at young specialists in Plastic Surgery.
