Information about Tampere Surgical Education Centre
Tampere Surgical Education Centre (TSEC) operates under the Department of Research, Development, Innovation and Education in Tampere University Hospital, The Wellbeing Services County of Pirkanmaa. On October 2023, TSEC celebrated its tenth anniversary. Tampere Surgical Education Centre is designed to serve as a teaching venue for various surgical specialties and clinical anatomy. It is located in the modern facilities of the O-Building that was completed in the summer of 2013.
The establishment of Tampere Surgical Education Centre has been supported by the European Regional Development Fund, Tampere University and Coxa Hospital for Joint Replacement.
A Medical Advisor is responsible for the medical operation, ethical issues, and the quality of operations. Two education coordinators are responsible for the practical arrangements of the training. Further assistance in running the operations is provided by the Continuous Learning Services unit. A monitoring group that meets three times a year, has been set up to guide and monitor the productivity of TSEC’s operations and service production, forms of cooperation and activities.
Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea has granted the license to use cadavers for surgical training in TSEC, and also supervises the operations. The National Advisory Board on Health Care Ethics Etene was involved in the planning of Tampere Surgical Education Centre and has welcomed the establishment of TSEC.
Our cooperation partners include the units and group companies of The Wellbeing Services County of Pirkanmaa, Tampere University and other educational institutions that provide health care education, clinics of other hospitals, medical associations, and companies that manufacture and import medical implants, instruments, or devices.
